About Worship

Uplifting, public worship is at the center of our church life.  Regular Sunday morning worship, holiday services, inter-faith community worship, weddings, funerals, and baptisms are all facets of the rich and varied worship life of this congregation.  Our worship is solidly rooted in the rich traditions of Reformed Protestantism encompassing a deep and broad musical heritage, an open-minded approach to the timeless wisdom of Scripture, both private and congregational prayers, and an emphasis on thoughtful and inspiring preaching.  In planning worship, we are guided by the principle of "honoring the old while embracing the new" as we combine the best of traditional and contemporary prayers, readings, and music for services that are beautiful, uplifting, and inspiring.  Sunday services start at 10:30 a.m all year round.

Preaching

Our worship includes inspiring preaching that each week reminds us of God's unwavering love for us while also calling us to live our lives in ways that demonstrate our love for others.  The thought-provoking sermons shed the wisdom of Scripture on the challenges of living today.

Music

Service music embraces the most loved traditional organ music and hymns as well as Gospel, spirituals, folk, and contemporary praise music.  In addition to our  sanctuary choir, we are regularly blessed with contributions from our folk choir and children's choir as well as instrumental and vocal soloists. Please click here to hear a few samples of the music from past worship services.

Sacraments

We celebrate the sacrament of Communion on the first Sunday of each month.  All are welcome to the Lord's Table whether members of the congregation or not.  We use grape juice in our service.  Baptisms are always celebrated as part of congregational worship. We join with Christians around the world in observing World Communion Sunday each year.

Holidays

We observe Christmas, Easter, and Palm Sunday with celebratory worship services incorporating special music including many of the best-known and best-loved hymns and carols.  We celebrate Christmas with a Traditional Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols.  Easter is observed with celebratory music and always includes the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah.

Advent

The church observes the seasons of Advent, preceding Christmas, and Lent, preceding Easter.  Throughout Advent we enjoy the tradition of lighting the candles of the Advent Wreath.  We  begin Advent with our Christmas Is... party of good food, good fellowship, and service to others where we sing carols and give cookies to residents at local nursing homes.

Lent

We observe the Lenten season with worship services on Ash WednesdayHoly Thursday, and Good Friday along with a series of simple soup-and-bread suppers and brief Scriptural Reflections on Wednesday evenings.

Palm Sunday

We celebrate Palm Sunday with a Sunday School procession, special music during worship, and than a delicious Pancake Brunch prepared by the men of the congregation.
